When Acura first introduced the ZDX in 2009, it was a daring departure from the typical SUV formula. A fastback-style crossover with coupe-like styling, the original ZDX was ahead of its time—but perhaps too far ahead. After a brief production run ending in 2013, the ZDX faded from the spotlight. Now, over a decade later, the nameplate is back—reborn for a new era. And this time, it’s all-electric.
The 2024 Acura ZDX marks the luxury brand’s first-ever electric vehicle (EV), developed in partnership with General Motors. Built on GM’s Ultium platform, which also underpins vehicles like the Cadillac Lyriq and Chevy Blazer EV, the new ZDX combines Acura’s precision-engineered performance with futuristic electric technology. The result is a sleek, powerful SUV that signals Acura’s bold push into the electrified future.
A Distinctive, Performance-Driven Design
The new Acura ZDX carries a striking design language that reflects its performance aspirations. Its low-slung, wide stance, aerodynamic lines, and signature “Chicane” LED lighting give it a futuristic yet unmistakably Acura look. The long wheelbase and short overhangs provide a sporty silhouette while maximizing interior space.
Unlike the original ZDX, which was more of a niche coupe-SUV, the 2024 model is a true midsize luxury SUV, designed to go head-to-head with the likes of the Tesla Model Y, BMW iX, and Audi Q8 e-tron. Acura hasn’t just revived a name—it has completely reimagined it for the modern EV era.
Electrifying Performance
Acura’s performance heritage is baked into the DNA of the new ZDX. The vehicle comes in two main trims: the ZDX A-Spec and the high-performance ZDX Type S.
The A-Spec version is available in both single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, producing up to 340 horsepower and offering an estimated range of around 325 miles on a full charge (for the RWD model). That’s more than enough to handle daily commutes and weekend getaways with confidence.
However, the real star is the ZDX Type S. This performance-oriented model features dual motors, AWD, and a staggering 500 horsepower. Acura says it can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds—plenty quick for a luxury SUV. It also comes equipped with air suspension, adaptive dampers, and massive Brembo brakes, making it as competent in the corners as it is in a straight line.
Technology That Elevates the Drive
Inside, the ZDX offers a tech-forward experience designed to keep drivers connected and in control. It features an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Google built-in integration provides access to Google Maps, Assistant, and the Play Store, making navigation and media control seamless.
One of the standout features is Acura’s first use of a Bang & Olufsen sound system. The 18-speaker setup delivers crystal-clear audio that transforms the cabin into a mobile concert hall. Combine that with premium materials, a panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting, and the ZDX feels every bit the luxury EV it’s meant to be.
Fast Charging and Real-World Range
The ZDX supports DC fast charging at up to 190 kW, allowing it to add roughly 81 miles of range in just 10 minutes. That’s a major advantage for drivers who frequently travel longer distances. Acura is also partnering with major charging networks to provide access to more than 90,000 chargers across North America through the Acura EV app.
For most drivers, the ZDX’s range and charging capabilities will more than meet daily needs. Whether you’re commuting, taking a road trip, or just running errands around town, the ZDX aims to make the EV experience simple and stress-free.
Pricing and Availability
The 2024 Acura ZDX A-Spec starts around $60,000, while the high-performance Type S is expected to start around $70,000. Considering its performance, technology, and premium features, the ZDX is priced competitively within the luxury EV segment.
Pre-orders began in early 2024, with initial deliveries now underway. Acura is offering a concierge service to help new EV buyers understand home charging options, tax incentives, and maintenance needs, making the transition to electric as smooth as possible.
A Glimpse Into Acura’s Future
The return of the ZDX isn’t just about reviving a name—it’s a statement of intent. Acura is entering the EV market with purpose and precision, blending performance, luxury, and technology into a package that feels fresh and exciting. The ZDX is the first of several electric models planned by the brand, and if this SUV is any indication, the future looks bright—and fast—for Acura.
